The Belton Branch has been part of the community since 1882. Restoration will revitalize an important part of our heritage.
The first phase of restoration will be acquire the rail line and rehabilitate it so that it can support rail traffic. Since the line has not been abandoned, a short-line operator will be secured to provide freight service, (if any develops,) and to support the Museum rail activities. In addition, we will contract with an architect/planner to formulate the site plan.
Phase two of the project will permit the Museum’s rolling stock to be transformed from static displays to real-time demonstrations of life as it existed more than 100 years ago. Furthermore, rail movements on this line will attract local and regional tourism. Special events will attract the railfan community.
Finally, the construction of a walking/jogging trail during phase three will engage additional citizens into the process. |
